Amazon Adds Another Notch Up Its Belt With the Amazon Kindle DX Global Wireless

Just a few days into the year 2010, tech circles were already abuzz with speculations that Amazon was just about ready to launch its Amazon Kindle DX Global Wireless edition. The telltale sign? A link in the Amazon.com site that read Kindle DX Now with Global Wireless. Granted the link at that time was dead, but a few days later and the announcement finally came – the Kindle DX with global roaming capabilities was ready for pre order with shipment to start on January 19.

With other ebook readers like the Sony Reader PRS, iRex Digital Reader, and COOL-ER still scrambling to get a share of the pie in the market where the Kindle simply rules, Amazon is proving yet again its dominance by making the Kindle DX available worldwide. Not only will US Kindle DX owners be able to maximize the use of their device even while traveling outside the country, but reading enthusiasts in over 100 countries will get to share the Kindle DX experience as well.

The Amazon Kindle DX Global Wireless comes with exactly the same features as the original Kindle DX. It’s a device that’s just one-third of an inch thick, but with a large, 9.7-inch e-ink screen with 16 shades of grey so that it reads like real paper. Other than its large display, what makes it superior to other ebook reading devices is its built-in PDF reader and auto-rotate feature that makes it easy for businessmen and professionals to read documents and newspapers with ease even while on the go.

With the Kindle DX and the 3G capability available just about anywhere in the world, DX users will be able to download content such as books, blogs, journals, or periodicals wirelessly within seconds, even outside of a WiFi hotspot. Its 4GB of internal memory allows you to store up to 3,500 books.

The Amazon Kindle DX Global Wireless can be pre-ordered today at a price of $489. Shipping starts on January 19, 2010, with orders prioritized on a first come, first served basis. To know more about the features of Amazon’s top-of-the-line ebook reading device, check out our Kindle DX review.
